If you like a good oaked Chardonnay, you should try this wine.  New French barrel aged for 6 months, the oak and vanilla come through on the nose.  The palate though is more restrained with a lovely creaminess, stonefruit characters and minerality that comes through from the terroir.

It is a a blend of Mendoza and B95 clones with 45% having had secondary malo-lactic fermentation.

This week's Wineseeker featured winery is Greystone in Waipara Valley.

I could sit around in the summer afternoon sun and sniff this wine forever.   But eventually the temptation to taste is overwhelming and poof somehow it has disappeared!  How did that happen.. back for another glass.

The abundant nose is of rose-petals and musk and a hint of banana bread.   The palate is more restrained than expected after that amazing floral display with light spice, florals, minerality, and lychee.  There was a small percentage of noble rot Botrytis to this wine which has given the mouthfeel more weight and texture.

Raymond Chan - 18.5/20.  Sam Kim 94/100.   Deep dark ruby coloured with a nose of plum, dark cherry, and cacoa.  The palate has an initial dusty savoriness, a midpalate of cherry and dark chocolate with a finish of white pepper spice and oak notes.

The tannins are still quite tight indicating that it will develop well in the bottle over the next few years.

Pure Gold Air NZ Wine Awards 2011 - it is easy to see why this wine is winning all its accolades.   Lime zest and orange on the nose.  Nice balance of fruit sweetness and acidity making this a very refreshing wine.  Beautiful creamy mouth feel with peach and citrus flavours with lovely minerality.

This is a beautifully constructed wine with a crunch of crisp apple, dried apricot and spice balanced with brisk acidity. The modest alcohol means you can enjoy almost with inpunity! This will be open through the day.
