Greystone Riesling

Greystone Riesling
citrus | Lime Zest | Off-dry | Stonefruit
Vineyard: Greystone Wines
Vintage: 2010
Varietal: Riesling
Country: New Zealand
Region: Waipara Valley

The 2010 vintage shows hints of orange and lime rind on the nose. As with all our Rieslings we're really interested in the texture we can create in the wine, afforded to us by the long hang time we get in the Waipara Valley. Lots of spice, peach & other stone fruit on the palate focussed by some lovely citrus flavoured minerality.

Winemakers notes

Viticulturist's Notes
A blend of two blocks from Greystone Vineyard. Block four from heavier soils with dominant clay and block 12 from steeper and drier soils with less topsoil and underlying limestone. Shoot thinning and careful bunch selection at harvest time has given us clean and ripe fruit. Density 2500 vines/Ha on VSP two-cane trellis.

Winemaker's Notes
Our Riesling was whole bunch pressed and settled cold before a cool fermentation, entirely in stainless steel tanks. The 239 clone gave us beautiful flavours in the vineyard, which has translated into intense and pure flavours in this year's Greystone Riesling. A short time on yeast lees, before filtration, has given us a smooth and enticing texture. Cellar for 8 + years.

Our tasting notes

Pure Gold Air NZ Wine Awards 2011 - it is easy to see why this wine is winning all its accolades.   Lime zest and orange on the nose.  Nice balance of fruit sweetness and acidity making this a very refreshing wine.  Beautiful creamy mouth feel with peach and citrus flavours with lovely minerality.
