Natural pear fruit on the nose and a faint floral blush, this has a slight nutty note on the palate and a hint of sweet tangerine.
Lucious Whites
Luscious Whites include white wines that are moderate to low in acidity or has had malolactic fermentation making the wines luscious, creamy, or soft. Includes Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Viognier and Gewurztraminer.
This has had just a whisper of oak and shows appealing fruit character. Peach, melon and a slight cereal note on the nose, this has lovely fresh fruit character and just the right amount of creaminess.
Yet another impressive wine from Alpha Domus. This aromatic Viognier has lifted notes of apricot, stonefruit, citrus and subtle oaky spice. Luscious palate of stonefruits and citrus, with a nice touch of subtle oak. Great balance and texture, with a long apricot and spice finish. Great summer drinking!
To start the new year we thought we'd try something new. From Kiwi winemaker Matt Thomson comes the Alpha Zeta Soave 2009. This easy-going wine offers a new oersoective on the traditional whites that are produced in Verona, Italy. Clean and crisp with a gentle, and somewhat nutty, nose of white pettles leads to a smooth palate that is finished off with some zesty acidity. A great 'ready-now' Summer wine
that will help ease you back in to the short, but sweet, working week.
Melon and stonefruit nose with notes of straw and toasty oak, this is soft textured with just a schmear of butter. This is the most elegant Chardonnay Askerne has produced so far!
This is a drier style of gewurz, with a focussed, musky nose, rose and turkish delight on the palate and a long, warming spicy finish. Much awarded wine at a great price!
I received an email from Cuisine this morning with a fantastic sounding recipe for slow-cooked Salmon with Spiced Chilli Tomato Sauce and Coriander. I decided that I would try to match this recipe today with a wine we had in store. Today, we are tasting the Askerne 2008 Gewurztraminer. The spicy and lightly perfumed nose is full of lychees and ginger followed by an oily mouthfeel, moderately dry palate with chilli spice on the finish. Come in to try this funky wine and take a copy of the recipe to try it out at home.
A fruit bowl of lychee, lemon and mandarin, this is dry but luscious with a burst of mandarin sherbet on the finish.
Slightly confected apricot and attractive floral notes on the nose, the palate is dry with some nutty, smoky overtones.
Poised Chardonnay, the nose shows nectarines with a little squeeze of fresh citrus while the palate adds a smear of lemon curd, a light mealy nuance and minerality.
